Northwoods Ranch & Retreat understands the benefits of a healthy balance between work and recreation. In addition to the daily chores and responsibilities of working on a ranch, our students also learn fundamental life skills by participating in outdoor adventures. Through these various outdoor activities, students learn self-reliance, teamwork, and overcoming self-limiting attitudes. Students who have struggled in the past with traditional methods of therapy are most receptive and successful with our model of “campfire counseling.”
Since Maine is renowned for its beautiful four seasons, we have no shortage of outdoor adventure opportunities.
Special adventures include hiking parts of the Appalachian Trail with an appropriately paced summit of Mt. Katahdin and paddling the calm river waters of the Allagash, two of Maine’s premiere wilderness areas.
All students complete wilderness and recreation safety classes provided through Northwoods Ranch & Retreat prior to participating in excursions.
“The path that leads us through the most obstacles, often provides the richest journey.”
