“A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
What does Northwoods means to me?
What do you do at Northwoods?
I work as support staff in Kenya where my responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the safety of students, guide duties through different wilderness hikes, guidance of students on different duties assigned to them while in Africa, guidance on culture and acceptable norms in African society.
What is your experience?
I have 10 years’ experience as a guide in the Taita Taveta County. I have been guiding American students and volunteers from other parts of the world through community volunteer opportunities and hiking expeditions for that period of time. I have also worked with Northwoods for 4 years taking care of students.
Why do you work for Northwoods?
I work with Northwoods because it affords me the opportunity to do what I enjoy most. I love helping others, I love making friends, I love learning and acquiring new perspectives, I love reaching out to brothers and sisters in difficulty and assisting where I can. I lost both my parents when I was young and I automatically became a guardian to my younger siblings, that drives me a lot to want to take care of people. I enjoy taking care of my Northwoods brothers from another mother and it brings joy to my heart to see the changes in them that come about from our doing things together that are unselfish.
